The Adafruit Mini PiTFT is definitely the smallest and most compact color display you could need for a Raspberry Pi project. Because it is so small, it is also perfect for use with a Raspberry Pi Zero!

This 135×240 colour TFT add-on for Raspberry Pi is the ideal product if you’re looking for a small display. It can be used with any board in the Raspberry Pi series. The Raspberry Pi board is not included with this product and must be purchased separately.

This Mini PiTFT features a 240×135 pixel IPS colour display that ensures excellent viewing from all angles. Since this TFT uses only the SPI port, it is not only very fast but also leaves several pins available for LEDs, sensors, buttons, or other components. Additionally, thanks to its compact size, it can fit into almost any enclosure.

In fact, the display has a 1.14″ diagonal, making it very small. Nevertheless, it remains highly readable thanks to its high contrast and visibility, as it is an IPS display.

Adafruit has also used a small space at the top to provide two tactile buttons connected to GPIO pins, allowing you to create a simple user interface. Similarly, at the bottom there is a Qwiic/STEMMA QT connector for I2C sensors and devices, which will work automatically with any STEMMA QT-compatible device.

Using this display is very straightforward. A kernel driver and a Python library for the ST7789 chipset by Adafruit are available. The display can be set up as an output console, allowing you to view both text and a user interface through Raspberry Pi OS, or you can draw images, text, and more using the Python imaging library. Tests have shown update rates of around ~15 FPS, meaning you can also create animations and/or simple videos.

It works with any Raspberry Pi development board, and since the Mini PiTFT display is shipped fully pre-assembled and tested, you only need to connect it and install the Python code.
