1.3″ Colour LCD Display Breakout (SPI)
If you are looking for a fantastic addition to your Raspberry Pi or Arduino projects, you’ll agree that this Pimoroni colour LCD display—with its 1.3″ square format, 240×240 pixels, high speed, high resolution, and excellent viewing angles (IPS)—is the perfect LCD display for you.
This display can accommodate a large amount of information, such as graphs, data, and photo albums, thanks to its square shape. Like the smaller 0.9″ LCD breakout, this 1.3″ version features an IPS display with incredible viewing angles, high brightness, and excellent speed.
It communicates via SPI and can run at up to ~50 FPS, although even from 10 FPS it performs well for most applications.
If you prefer not to solder this breakout, you can use it with the Breakout Garden (SPI).
Features of the 1.3″ SPI Colour LCD Breakout:
- 1.3″ colour LCD (240×240 pixels)
- SPI interface
- It is 3.3V or 5V compatible
- Reverse polarity protection
- Compatible with Arduino and all models of Raspberry Pi
- Python library
Display specifications of the 1.3″ SPI Colour LCD Breakout:

- 240×240 pixels (~260 PPI)
- Active area: 23.4 × 23.4 mm
- Luminosità 250m2
- Contrast ratio: 800:1
- Viewing angle: 160° (horizontal and vertical)
Software
An existing Python library has been adapted to control this display. By using it, you’ll find that displaying images, text, graphs, or even animated GIFs is very easy.
How to connect the 1.3″ SPI Colour LCD Breakout to your Raspberry Pi
If you are not using a Breakout Garden HAT with SPI, see below.
The Python library is set up to be used on Raspberry Pi, using SPI 1 by default (BCM 7 for CS, BCM 11 for SCK, and BCM 10 for MOSI), BCM 9 for DC, and BCM 19 for the backlight.
Pay attention to the pin connections between your 1.3″ LCD Breakout and the GPIO of your Raspberry Pi, as the numbering uses BCM pin numbering:
- 3–5V to any 5V or 3V pin
- CS to BCM 7
- SCK to BCM 11
- MOSI to BCM 10
- DC to BCM 9
- BL to BCM 19
- GND to any ground pin
Of course, you can also use different pins with your LCD Breakout; in that case, you will need to modify them when initializing the display in your code.
