Swirly, universal aluminium mounting grid for sensors and breakouts – 10×5 blocks
As so many development boards, sensors and breakouts now feature Qwiic or Stemma QT plug-and-play connectors, you can mount multiple boards together, allowing you to put projects together very quickly. With this extremely handy Swirly grid, you can mount various microcontrollers and sensors to create a stunning project.
The Swirly grid consists of an ‘aluminium PCB’, and as it is technically manufactured using a PCB process and has a single-sided aluminium core, there is no copper. The grid is simply a painted aluminium support (black solder mask with screen printing).
Take care if using metal screws to secure components, as aluminium is both electrically and thermally conductive.
Each square measures 0.6″ x 0.6″ (15.24 mm x 15.24 mm) and there are holes or slots every 5.08 mm (0.2″). You can fit practically anything onto the grid using the various dots and dashes. Each hole has a diameter of 2.54 mm (0.1″), and the slots measure 2.75 mm x 7.5 mm (0.11″ x 0.3″).
What’s more, if that weren’t enough, aluminium is easy to work with, cut, bend and drill, should you need to customise it further.
Technical details:
- Plate thickness: 1.5748 mm (0.062″)
- Plate dimensions for 10×5 blocks: 76.2 x 152.4 mm (3″ x 6″)
- For 0.1″ grid mounting projects
- Each pack comes with “one universal mounting grid – 10×5”. Cables, sensors and microcontrollers are sold separately.
Using the script at the following link, you can access a generator that creates a custom KiCad grid tailored to your requirements.
