IR Remote Receiver with Stemma JST-PH 2mm connector

This Adafruit IR Receiver is equipped with two selectable IR receiver chips. It is ideal for a variety of projects involving the reception of IR remote signals. You can use it in conjunction with the High-Current IR Transmitter (Stemma), which makes it easy to create powerful IR LED emitters.

This breakout board has a 38 kHz sensor at one end and one in the centre, along with a slide switch to select which of the two to read. You cannot use both sensors simultaneously as they would ‘interfere’ with each other, resulting in an inconsistent output. However, if you are willing to solder two wires, you can read each sensor independently using the labelled pads.

Please note that this board is specifically designed to receive 38KHz IR remote control signals; it is not suitable for proximity detection or for signals at other frequencies. The signal must be read by a microcontroller capable of receiving pulses, so ensure it supports IR receiver connectivity and decoding. Sometimes it is necessary to use a special code or specific pins.

Using the IR receiver is simple: you need to power the board by connecting V+ and ground to 3–5 VDC, point a 38 kHz remote control at the sensors and press a few buttons. The demodulated envelope of the IR signal is sent via the Signal pin to your microcontroller, which will then need to decode it. To make it easier to use, a green LED is included to indicate power, and a red LED for the signal. When infrared remote signals are received by the sensors on the board, the red LED flashes to alert you.

It is very easy to install in enclosures and devices, thanks to its mounting holes. You can use a 3-pin STEMMA JST-PH cable with 2mm pitch, along with connectors or crocodile clips (not included with this product), to easily connect this board without the need for soldering.

Each board is fully assembled and tested, and includes a 0.1″ header for power, ground and signal, should you wish to solder it.
