The official case for the Raspberry Pi 5 board represents a step up from its counterpart designed for the Raspberry Pi 4. A number of improvements and thermal solutions have been implemented to suit the dimensions and peak power consumption of the Raspberry Pi 5.

The case retains its snap-fit design, making it easy to assemble and disassemble. The thermal improvements include an internal PWM fan to be connected to the dedicated connector on the Raspberry Pi 5, a large heat sink, ventilation slots in the base of the case and a narrow gap beneath the lid to ensure proper air circulation. The combined effectiveness of these active and passive thermal solutions keeps the Raspberry Pi at an optimal temperature even during the most intensive tasks.

Another distinctive feature of the official Pi 5 case is the inclusion of a removable transparent fan insert, with cut-outs allowing access to the GPIO pins and angled slots for spacers. By removing the transparent insert, HATs can be inserted into the empty space, allowing the Raspberry Pi’s functionality to be expanded without having to remove the board from the case. It is important to note that spacers and GPIO extension connectors are required for installing HATs (spacers and GPIO extension connectors are not included with this product) .

Other features of the case include access to the Raspberry Pi 5’s power button and activity LED, the ability to replace the Micro-SD card without removing the Raspberry Pi from the case thanks to a dedicated access panel, and soft feet that protect the surface on which the case is placed. It is also possible to stack multiple cases by adding spacers and screws (not included) of customisable sizes and lengths.
