LiPo Shim, previously known as Zero LiPo.
This tiny LiPo/LiIon power supply SHIM is compatible will all versions of the Raspberry Pi.
A neat, slick and mini power supply solution is not always exactly easy to obtain. LiPo SHIM (previously called Zero LiPo) is the perfect solution to get the most compact possible power supply for Raspberry Pi boards.
If you are looking for a permanent solution, the 0.8mm thick PCB can be soldered on your Raspberry Pi board directly onto the GPIO pins. If, instead, you want to be able to remove your LiPo SHIM whenever you want, solder it on the 2×6 0.1″ female header provided, but in this last case, the GPIO pins will be blocked.
The TPS61232 step-up boost converter grants up to 96% efficiency and is from Texas Instruments. Power and battery low indicator LEDs are located on the board. In case of a shutdown, consequence of under-voltage or due to external selection, the quiescent current is only 15uA sip.
LiPo SHIM has been described as “a great option for providing safe power for a portable project” in the four star review of The MagPi.
LiPo SHIM features are:
- 0.8mm thick PCB
- Shaped to sit as low as possible on the Raspberry Pi board
- 2-pole JST connector, ideal for most LiPo/LiIon batteries
- Power and low battery LED indicators
- Supplies up to 1.5A continuous current (15uA quiescent current)
- Low battery warning at 3.4V (asserts GPIO #4 low)
- Automatic shutdown at 3.0V to protect your battery
- VBAT+, GND and EN pins available to break out
- 2×6 0.1″ female header (optional, for non permanent installation)
- Includes rubber foot to space LiPo SHIM away from your Raspberry Pi board
- LiPo SHIM pinout
- Compatible with Raspberry Pi 4, 3, 2, B+, A+, Zero and Zero W boards
- Requires soldering
- Battery not included
Software
A one-line installer will grant a safe shutdown when the warning for low battery is triggered and GPIO #4 is pulled low. You can find more details in the GitHub repository: clean shutdown.
This software does not support Raspbian Wheezy.
IMPORTANT NOTES
- LiPo SHIM is not a charger. To top up your LiPo/LiIon batteries a separate charger is necessary. PowerBoost 1000 Charger or Adafruit Micro Lipo can be an ideal choice. From a functional point of view, it is identical to the Zero LiPo, the only difference is that LiPo SHIM has 2×6 header instead of 2×4.
- Important: Always verify the polarity before connecting the battery.
- BATTERY is NOT INCLUDED WITHIN THIS PRODUCT.
