TSSP77038 38 kHz Infrared Demodulator (unfiltered) (STEMMA JST-PH 2 mm)
Adafruit has highlighted Vishay’s TSSP series of chips, which are simpler than traditional ‘remote control’ receivers, as they do not filter the received signals but simply provide the demodulated output from the 38KHz infrared signal.
The Vishay chips are designed for ‘reflective sensing, light barriers and fast proximity applications’, so they are useful sensors for proximity projects where a particularly ‘smart’ IR decoder is not required, or for break-beam applications (infrared barriers) where the IR light is modulated rather than continuously on, as they will not be affected by other IR signals or changes in ambient light.
Please note that this board is specifically designed for proximity detection or break-beam projects; while it can receive 38 kHz IR remote control signals, it does not have a filtering system, so you will receive a lot of noisy signals.
This board is a fully assembled and tested PCB and works well for various IR detection projects; thanks to its mounting holes and the 2mm-pitch STEMMA JST-PH 3-pin connector, it is easy to install in enclosures and devices. You will need a STEMMA JST-PH cable with a 2mm pitch (not included with this product) to connect this board without the need for soldering. Alternatively, if you wish to solder, the board is supplied with a 0.1″ header for power, ground and signal.
